Message from the Director

The Tecnológico de Monterrey was founded in 1943 thanks to the vision of Mr. Eugenio Garza Sada and a group of Mexican entrepreneurs led by him. They made the dream of creating a cutting-edge educational institution a reality, which over time has remained and positioned itself as the best in the country.

On August 9, 1982, our history within universities in the Toluca Valley began. Tecnológico de Monterrey opened its doors for the first time as the Toluca Unit with 130 high school students and 132 in professional programs. By 1985, after a thorough evaluation of student enrollment growth and educational offerings, the Toluca Unit transformed into Campus Toluca. Three years later, the growth trend of the now Campus continued, registering a record number of 186 new high school students alone.

The 90s: A decade that marks the growth of Tec Campus Toluca.

In the early 1990s, the Academic Extension Directorate was established (1993), a specialized area that offers diplomas, consultancy projects, applied research, and short courses to meet the needs of the business and governmental sectors in the State of Mexico and its surroundings.

By the year 1994, the opening of the Bicultural High School program was initiated, a model that includes teaching courses entirely in English, thus enhancing the academic and formative quality of our students. And a year later, in 1995, following our goal of training the best students, it became a graduation requirement to complete 300 hours of Community Service in social institutions.

The internationalization of Campus Toluca began in 1996, the year in which our institution established its first branch abroad in Quito, Ecuador, where Tecnológico de Monterrey is considered the most important business school in the country and the best university in Toluca.

The decade of the 90s closes with two of Campus Toluca's most important and outstanding projects. In 1998, the construction of the Gymnasium-Auditorium was completed, a building housing first-rate sports and cultural facilities in 6,000 square meters of construction. The building hosts various congresses, symposiums, musical concerts, and academic graduations. Undoubtedly, the best facilities among universities in Toluca. The second project that was consolidated is the establishment of the Master's Project in Education, developed in agreement with the Government of Estado de México, with the aim of expanding and updating the knowledge of elementary and high school teachers from public schools in the state.

The 2000s: Expansion and Positioning of Tec Campus Toluca.

At the beginning of this decade, in 2002, Campus Toluca had an area of 480 thousand square meters and over 59 thousand square meters of construction. To further boost technology development, the construction of the Technological Development Center CEDETEC was completed, which in its two buildings houses the most advanced laboratories in automotive engineering, industrial networks, computer-aided design, television, radio, multimedia, architecture workshops, among others.

That same year, the Campus Toluca Business Incubator began its operations, and the International Competitiveness Center (CCI) obtained certification of its Quality Management System under the ISO 9001:2000 standard. It is worth noting that few universities in Toluca currently hold this type of certification.

In 2004, PrepaTec Metepec was founded with the aim of increasing the presence of the Tecnológico de Monterrey in the fastest-growing area of the city. The Metepec campus was developed on an area of 42,600 square meters.

The High Academic Performance Program (PARA) was launched in 2005 with the aim of enhancing and developing the talent of high-achieving students, motivating them with a 90% scholarship in professional careers.

A year later, in 2006, the Center for Automotive Industry Development in Mexico (CeDIAM) was established, with its national headquarters at Campus Toluca. This center is led by a board composed of top executives from major international automotive assemblers, supported by representatives of important industrial chambers.

In the year 2007, the "Eugenio Garza Sada" Library underwent renovation, housing over 90,000 physical volumes for consultation. Additionally, the Institute for Sustainable Social Development (IDeSS) was established, aiming to offer education and entrepreneurship programs to contribute to the human, economic, and social development of communities lacking opportunities to generate wealth, employment, and improve their living conditions.

In 2008, the Comprehensive Design and Technology Center (CIDT) was inaugurated as a space for creative synergy where various disciplines converge in the conception and development of academic and professional projects focused on the design, construction, and evaluation of prototypes. It spans over 1500 square meters equipped with tools and machinery of the highest technology.

Towards the end of this decade, in 2009, the EXATEC Association Valle de Toluca was created with the aim of promoting the responsible participation of the EXATEC community, strengthening their social, labor, business, and sports ties.
