From a contemporary perspective, mathematics is an enabling science. It provides a logically coherent framework and a universal language for process analysis, optimization and control. B.S. in Data Science enables you to learn how to extract knowledge from data in order to optimize outcomes and processes, and, at the same time, assures their integrity and security.
Career field
On graduating from B.S. in Data Science and Mathematics Engineering, you will be able to work in diverse areas of an organization, such as:
Data science: analysis, research, application
Consulting in data analysis for decision making in companies
Design mathematical models for data security systems
With a degree in data science you can join research centers in the areas of applied mathematics
Is this right for you?
Do you see what everybody sees, but you analyze it and think differently? Are you passionate about mathematics? Are you interested in cutting-edge technology and its foundations? B.S. in Data Science is for you.
The B.S. in Data Science and Mathematics Engineering program is aimed at training professionals who have a solid background in statistics, applied mathematics and artificial intelligence algorithms with a special focus on mathematical modeling and computational simulation which, from the data and its analysis, allow them to solve design, optimization and decision-making problems. Its graduates apply complex mathematical models of cryptography that contribute to the security of data and computer systems. In addition, they apply numerical analysis and cognitive computation techniques with the aim of increasing the productivity and competitiveness of companies and the well-being of society. Due to their preparation, they carry out research activities, as well as postgraduate studies in science or engineering areas, or carry out research at universities and/or centers of high international prestige.
Competencies
Build deterministic or stochastic mathematical models, supported by cutting-edge computer tools.
Design linear and nonlinear optimization models for complex problems using computer tools.
Analyze and process structured and unstructured data using mathematical methods, statistics, artificial intelligence and techniques consistent with data science.
Use artificial intelligence and cognitive computing methods to solve optimization problems.
Design complex mathematical models that contribute to data and computer system security.
Communicate scientific and technological information in the area of mathematics applications to diverse audiences.
Entry profile
Tecnológico de Monterrey is looking for a new generation of students that have finished their high school studies and are talented, enthusiastic individuals, who are committed to the development of their environment and the wellbeing of society; people who have the potential to study an undergraduate program and become leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit, humanistic sense and competitive on an international stage.
Entry requirements: High school or equivalent.
The three stages of the model Choose your path
Exploration
You will open your competency file and add to it throughout your degree program.
You will learn the foundations of the area of Engineering - Applied Sciences.
You will participate in fundamental and exploration challenges from the area of Engineering - Applied Sciences, interacting with peers from different degree programs.
You will study general education courses, selecting them from a collection.
You will participate in a challenge that integrates all the competencies to be developed in this phase.
Focus
You will acquire the core competencies of your degree, in other words, those that distinguish it.
You will participate in more focused challenges to reinforce what you have learned and broaden your basic knowledge.
You will have the elements to decide whether to deepen your knowledge or diversify and, subsequently, build your specialization plan.
The Tec Weeks, challenges and overall university experiences will enrich your file.
Specialization
You have decided between diversifying or focusing deeply in your major, which you will achieve by choosing a concentration or a stay, to name a few of your options. The TEC Semester is a flexible time to start.
You will develop the competencies related to your specialization, increasingly connected to your passions, interests and plans.
By passing a concentration, you will develop your competencies, and, on graduating, will be a candidate for obtaining a Diploma in that concentration, after meeting the established requirements.
How can you specialize?
Concentrations
Specialize in one of the different concentrations available at the campus of your choice, according to the profile you would like to develop.
Internships
Internships allow you to participate in the development of specific projects with companies, organizations, or research groups, in a context of total immersion related to a specialty field. They can be carried out locally, nationally or internationally.
